What is Growth ?

We all read about growth, inflation, economics etc. Every day our newspapers carry articles on such things. Our Companies are broadcasting their profit figures , growth and of course we ourselves are bothered about our salary hikes, the things we need to buy and so on.
So what does this all mean in a much more wider context ? I mean the govt. says economy has to grow, inflation is a necessity, salaries need to grow, and companies need to grow meaning more profit, more sales etc.

What does this imply for all of us ? everyone wants more money for which they want to somehow do things which will be sold more and more money taken for the company.

We need more humans to consume more of our company goods so that we can earn more money ?

And sometimes I wonder is there something wrong with our definition of growth ? does growth only mean more money ? even for an company ?? or can growth for a company be defined in some other terms instead of profit ?

Lets say a company developes a radically new product which changes the things are done for better, but still the profits remain same or decline a bit , is that growth ? or no growth ??

Let us say a person is happy with his/her work, their normal needs are taken care of by the pay received and they save enough too ?? in such case do we need more money to define our growth ?? or are we possibly growing by learning new things but not necessarily getting more money ???

The earth has finite resources possibly the universe has infinite which we have not yet learnt to tap ? but why should money or profits or to be precise increase of money be only thing defining our growth ??

Personally I think there is a fundamental flaw in any model that defines growth as only increase in money/material wealth , and excludes all other attributes of growth.

Possibly we need a new definition of growth both personal and  company wise as well as for the country too.

Earth has limited resources which if used properly without greed can support a lot of humans comfortably, but they need to be used  wisely and there has to be a balance  between materialistic growth and contentment.

Possibly once we tap other planets we could allow  those who want  unlimited materialistic growth to go to those planets and suck them dry  way they do to earth, but as of today  we cant let our growth  mark our death.

To be alive means to grow, to feel to sense , but growth should not imply death for us or for others either.

We need to redefine our economic models and so do we need to redefine our growth.
